Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I’m a mom of one toddler boy, wife and boss lady. I live in San Francisco – yes, in the city. I’ve been here for over 15 years. It’s where I studied photography, met my husband, birthed my son and have experienced life as an urban dweller.

I’m addicted to sugar. Yup, I admit it. I’m the chick who will raid a dessert bar at a conference or luncheon and stash extras to take home to “share with my husband” – bah! He never gets a bite.

I’m a runner. As in, I run along San Francisco’s waterfront weekly. It’s where I get some of my most inspired ideas and have the best pep-talks with me, myself and I. I realized just this week that I’ve been listening to the same music while running for the past 20 years. The only thing that has changed is now I listen to a Pandora station vs. my old-school handheld CD players or iPod. Moby. That’s who I listen too – I know you were wondering.

My greatest creation is my son. He’s tender, sensitive and a total lover. I thought I understood and felt the meaning of unconditional love, but he shattered that ceiling a million times over. Even the days when he thinks it’s hilarious to try and gouge my eyeballs out with his tiny little fingers, or terrorize our fat Puggle by pulling her tail or tempting her with food, I still think he’s the most amazing little creature.

How did you get started in photography?
My love affair with photography started when I was just six years old. I would sneak off with my mom’s 110 film camera and snap photos of my Pound Puppies, doorknobs (hey, I was six years old after all) and wrapped presents. When I grew-up I went on to study photography at the Academy of Art with a focus in portraiture.

Photography has allowed me to photograph what is important to me (like Pound Puppies when I was six and now my son and family), and in-turn what’s important to my clients such as their families and life milestones.

What genre do you shoot?
I specialize in maternity + boudoir maternity and newborns. I am an on-location and natural light photographer. My style is natural, artistic and timeless. I’m based in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood and travel throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Why do I specialize in maternity + boudoir maternity? Because it’s the most fantastical time in a women’s and couple’s life. Your future with baby is whatever you dream it to be while pregnant. Maternity is the transition between single-hood and motherhood. Never again will you be a singular in your identify or name. You are a mother of one, two, three or more. No matter what changes happen in life, you will always be the mother of your child/ren. This is why I specialize in maternity photography. To capture the fantastical moment of standing on the threshold of this major life milestone and change.

Who or what inspires you?
I was influenced by my dad who was a photography hobbiest. He had this super cool Minolta camera (film – this was long before digital cameras were invented) when I was young that had special digital cards that you could insert if you wanted to shoot landscape, sports or portraits. I still have it. I was also influenced by my maternal grandma who lived on an almond orchard. She built her own house (literally) and had fun interests like pressing flowers and traveling. In fact, after she’d return from a trip she’d put together a slideshow and the family would gather at her house to watch it and listen to her stories.

They’re both no longer living, but I’m still inspired by their memories.

What kind of camera bag do you carry and what’s in it?
I carry a Kelly Moore bag that’s grey (and I looove it). I have my Canon 6D and multiple lenses. Usually one of my prime lens’ are on it, either the 85mm, 35mm or 50mm. I also always have a small notepad and pen for ideas and I write down a quick shot list for client sessions. I keep a pack of gum, hair ties, tinted chapstick, tissues, lens cleaner – it’s basically become my emergency bag. I have a routine and if I leave something behind it derails me.

The best advice I have ever received is to have a vision. Without it you’re lost.
