Tell us a little bit about yourself:
Hi! I’m Kelley. I’ve been married to my best friend and college sweetheart for 10 years and we have two sweet kids, Ava, 7, and Cole, 3. I’m originally from the D.C. area, but currently live in beautiful Chattanooga, TN.
How did you get started in photography?
I have always had a passion for art in many different forms. My grandmother was an amazing artist and always encouraged me to be creative. As a kid I remember learning to shoot with my mom’s old film cameras and loved it.
In college, I started out as an art major and eventually took a film photography class. My love of the camera just came alive. I could spend hours in the darkroom creating prints. It was amazing to me. However, I ended up switching majors and graduating with my Nursing degree and started working as a Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby nurse. I absolutely loved being a part of that amazing time in a woman’s life.
After a few years, though, the creative person in me just wasn’t quite being fulfilled. I loved being a nurse, but there was a creative void that was missing in my life. After my daughter was born in 2007, I began taking photos of her…lots of photos. I didn’t want to miss anything. I wanted to learn everything I could about digital photography. I didn’t want to start a business at that point. I just enjoyed learning photography as a hobby.
After my son was born in 2011 I really found my passion in life with photography and decided to open my business and the rest is history! 🙂
What do you shoot?
Maternity, newborn and children. I also photograph families during certain times of the year.
Who or what inspires you?
I’m inspired by beautiful light and honest emotion and connection. Both captivate me. I’m also inspired by little details, the tangible and the in-between. And of course, I’m inspired daily by my own two little ones.
What kind of camera bag do you carry and what’s in it?
I carry a Jo totes camera bag in Gracie mint. Inside is my Canon 5D (classic) and 50mm 1.4 and Canon 100mm macro. I also have memory cards and lens cleaner.
What are some of your favorite photography products?
I love to keep things simple, so I don’t have any for myself. Some favorite products that I offer to clients are Loktah’s fine art torn edge prints. They are to die for. And also their reclaimed barnwood frames. I love them!
Three random things about yourself:
I love pasta and could eat it everyday.
I love traveling and I’m always up for a new adventure. My dream is to live abroad someday and raise my kids in a foreign country for a while.
I love thrift stores, antiques and salvaged furniture. I rarely buy furniture new. I love finding old pieces of furniture and giving them new life.
Best piece of advice you’ve received?
Don’t dream of success, work for it.
