Areas of the world you Serve:
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am a Texan, born and raised. I have lived all over South, Texas. I met my husband when I was 13 in a town called Humble. I married my high school sweet heart at the age of 17. We have 3 amazing kiddos (Blake, Brooklyn & Brylee) and one fur baby (Chloe, Cocker Spaniel). After we got married we moved to Phoenix, AZ where my husband is originally from. We lived there for about 10 years and recently decided to moved back to my home state of Texas. Arizona was beautiful and we miss the mountains, just not the heat. The last summer we were there it was 123 degrees, no joke. We currently reside in North Texas in a small town called, Celina. We love living in our small town and all the support and love that goes along with living in a small town.
How did you get started in photography?
I am self-taught. I started photographing my kids then doing photos for friends and family. In 2008, I started my photography business in Arizona. I quit my full-time job at the bank and decided to pursue photography full-time. I have been a full-time photographer ever since and it was the best decision EVER. I have always loved art and knew I wanted to do something with art, I just never thought it would be photography. I went to college for interior design.
What genre do you shoot?
Children, Families and newborn lifestyle portraits. I just love documenting families in their homes. It has to be my favorite type of session.
Who or what inspires you?
My children and the beauty around me. My children playing or the way the light falls on them will make me pick up my camera. I love doing personal projects with my kids to help inspire me and get me through times when business is slow. I also get inspiration from learning or taking classes. I love to learn about photography it is my passion.
What kind of camera bag do you carry and what’s in it?
I love my Jo Totes bag. I have a Nikon D700 camera. I also carry my Nikon 50mm 1.4 & Sigma 35mm 1.4 lens.
What are some of your favorite photography products?
I love anything photography related but I love Jo Totes bags. I love any kind of wood products, barn wood frames or prints.
Three random things about yourself:
I have never worn make-up.
My favorite candy is sour patch kids.
Dr. Pepper is my love language.
Best piece of advice you’ve received?
Build a strong brand. You need a strong brand to set yourself apart from an over saturated market. When someone looks at your work they need to be able to identify your art work. Be consistent. Make your brand original to you and stand out from the crowd.
Any advice you’d like to share?
Don’t compare yourself to others. We are so hard on ourselves as artist. Everyone has to start somewhere. It takes time to build your business and your brand. It doesn’t happen over night.
Mac or PC? Photoshop or Lightroom?
PC. Both, Photoshop & Lightroom.
