This week’s Featured Photographer is:
Danelle Sergent Photography
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am a natural light, on-location photographer specializing in children and families serving the northern Virginia, Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, and central Maryland area. Not only am I a photographer, but I also have a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. When I’m not behind the camera, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two children, and two miniature dachshunds.
How did you get started in photography?
I remember getting my first camera when I was about 12 years old. My dad made it a special event- we went to the camera store and out to eat at my favorite restaurant afterwards. It was just a simple film camera, but I’ll never forget the excitement of capturing those childhood memories in a picture. The birth of my two children took that childhood wonderment and ignited a new passion for photography within me. I view photography as a way of documenting life and preserving memories that can be treasured for years and generations to come. Being able to creatively capture life in a picture is a joy, and those small moments of time that express love and beauty in an image will now never fade from our memory.
What genre do you shoot?
Family and children
Who or what inspires you?
My children inspire me. I am constantly mesmerized by their creativity, endless smiles, and big imagination. They find joy in the smallest things.
What kind of camera bag do you carry and what’s in it?
I carry an Evermore bag by House of Flynn. In it I have two Canon 6D camera bodies and the following lenses: 24-70 2.8L, 135 1.2L, Sigma 35 1.2, and 70-300 1.2-5.6. You’ll also find a photovison target, a container of glitter, smarties (for bribing toddlers during sessions), camera batteries, a lenspen, and multiple camera cards.
What are some of your favorite photography products?
I love my lenspen! I use it to clean all my lenses before each session, and it’s great for quick touchups too. I’m also in love with my House of Flynn camera bag. It’s the only bag I have found that can carry all my gear, but still is very durable, and quite stylish!
Three random things about yourself:
I like to knit, binge watch shows like This Is Us, and read in my spare time.
Best piece of advice you’ve received?
It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.
Any advice you’d like to share?
Savor the little moments with your children because they grow up too fast!
Mac or PC? Photoshop or Lightroom?
